ISO 14001

Building and certifying an ISO 14001 environmental management system

We help you build an environmental management system that meets ISO 14001 requirements and is part of your normal management. From assessing environmental aspects and mapping obligations to the certification audit – and, if you wish, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 in the same system.

Process

How we work

  1. Scope and context

We agree which sites and activities fall under the system and what interested parties expect.

  2. Pre-audit

We review existing practice, permits and documents and record the gaps.

  3. Aspects and obligations

We assess environmental aspects and build the obligations register – these are the foundation of the whole system.

  4. Implementation

Objectives, procedures, responsibilities and monitoring. Where possible we merge them into your existing management system.

  5. Internal audit and management review

We check whether the system works and fix the gaps before the certification audit.

  6. Certification audit

The certification body's stage 1 and stage 2 audit and help with the follow-up actions.

Outcome

What you end up with

  • An environmental management system that meets ISO 14001
  • An environmental aspects register with significance ratings
  • A register of legal requirements and other obligations
  • Environmental objectives and a way to track them
  • Internal audit report and management review minutes
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 be combined into one system?

Yes – and it is often the most sensible option. The standards share a common structure, so leadership, risks, document control, internal audit and management review can be shared. An integrated system is easier to maintain and to audit.

Does an ISO 14001 certificate mean we meet all environmental requirements?

Not automatically. The standard requires you to know your obligations, monitor their fulfilment and continually improve. The company itself remains responsible for legal compliance – the system makes tracking it regular and demonstrable.

Is ISO 14001 suitable for an office or service company?

Yes, but the system is then smaller and simpler. In manufacturing the environmental aspects are usually more significant and the work is bigger. The pre-audit shows what a sensible scope is in your case.

Do you issue the certificate as well?

No. The certificate is issued by an independent accredited certification body. To keep things independent, we never audit a system we helped build. Our audit experience benefits you in a different way: we know exactly what the auditor looks at.
